About our Institute

Committed to Education

Dr. S & S. S. Ghandhy College of Engineering & Technology is situated at heart of SURAT, the second largest city of Gujarat State. This Institute is one of the oldest and largest Technical Institution of Gujarat. It was established in June 1955. The donor late Dr. SORABJI & SAROSH SORABJI GHANDHY, a local ZORASTRIAN Medical Practitioner, was the Prime Driving Force behind the establishment of this Institute, who donated Rs. 0.52 million in the year of 1952. Actually, he had a dream of starting a Degree Engineering College, not just a Polytechnic and so, he named the college as Dr. S. & S. S. GHANDHY COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY. Later on, The Government of Bombay State acquired the land building and equipments at the cost of Rs. 0.605 Million. Currently, the institute is administered by Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Govt of Gujarat. All the programmes of the institute are AICTE approved and the institute is affiliated to Gujarat Technological University (GTU), Chandkheda, Gujarat.

Department Vision

“To be a unique centre of excellance in Power Electronics technical education & innovation for sustainable growth of Industry and Society.”

What is the Difference between a Mission Statement and a Vision Statement_edited.jpg

Department Mission

  1. To impart viable technical core competence in Power Electronics.

  2. To respond effectively to the needs of Power Electronics industry and community at large.

  3. To promote faculty members to excel and in turn motivate the students to achieve excellence in Power Electronics.

  4. To develop conducive campus environment for qualitative learning and innovation.

  5. To inculcate moral, ethical and professional values amongst the students.

About Power Electronics Department

Creating a Brighter Future

Power Electronics is a unique course offered by various IITs, States and Foreign Universities at Higher Education which provides the knowledge of Power (Electric Power), Electronics and Control system Engineering. “Power” Engineering deals with the static and rotating power equipment for the generation, transmission and distribution of electric power while “Electronics” deals with the study of advanced solid state semiconductor power devices and circuits for Power conversion to meet the desired control objectives. Some of the important aspects of power electronics are control and conversion of electrical power, energy saving, power quality improvement, HVDC, machine control etc with high productivity and improvement of quality in the process control industries. In brief “Educated” and “Trained” power electronics engineer work as an electrical, electronics, instrumentation and control engineer.

Since 1984, Government of Gujarat has started Power Electronics course for the under graduate students with an intake of 20 seats. A being multidisciplinary branch intake were increased from 20 to 30 and 30 to 60 from 1990 to 2001 respectively. Department has established various laboratories like AC drives lab, DC drives lab, Research Lab, Power electronics lab, Basic electronics lab, Instrumentation lab, Computer lab, Project lab etc along with modern instruments for the laboratory experiments in the emerging world of power electronics. Final year students are get recruited at various industries like ESSAR, KRIBHKO, NTPC, RELIANCE, L & T, HIREL, INDUCTOTHERM, ELECTROTHERM etc. Department have well qualified research oriented and experienced faculties having M.E./M.Tech degree.
